MATERNITY

With a choice of their own doctor, and supported by the experienced midwives of the St. Anna Clinic, mothers will be able to experience the birth of their child in an atmosphere of warmth and safety. Mothers will be supported and accompanied in a consultative manner throughout labour and, wherever possible, their individual requirements will be taken into consideration.

CHILDBIRTH

Patients’ doctors are responsible for the overall supervision of childbirth. Assisted by a competent and experienced midwife, doctors will take care of mothers throughout childbirth. The midwife constantly monitors the birth procedure, providing advice and active assistance.

Should a Caesarean section be required, our Anaesthetics team will monitor mothers’ heart function and circulation. Generally, Caesarean sections can be performed under local anaesthetic. This enables mothers to consciously experience the birth of their child.

POSTNATAL

In order to deepen the contact between mother and child, newborn infants generally remain in the mother’s room following the birth.

Following a risk birth or in the case of infant adjustment disorders, a paediatrician will be consulted immediately. Where intensive observation and/or care are required, the necessary infrastructure, including incubators, is available in the Observation Room. Paediatricians, supported by paediatric nursing staff, attend to the wellbeing of newborn children around the clock. Even in this case, mothers may visit their newborn at any time or have the infant brought to them.

Nowadays a simple examination can detect, within minutes, whether a chid suffers from any hearing impairment. Hearing examinations are carried out for all newborns at the St. Anna Clinic.

In addition, the clinic also offers hip onographs for newborn infants. This examination is used to determine whether the child’s hip joints have achieved a normal stage of development.
