As the first interdisciplinary centre for the treatment of diseases, injuries, and malformations of the jaw, face, skull, and brain, Hirslanden’s Cranio-Facial Centre (cfc) constitutes a landmark in Swiss and European healthcare.
Close collaboration between experts from a variety of specialist disciplines means that patients receive the best possible all-round care. Why is a cranio-facial centre of excellence needed?
The specialist field of cranio-facial surgery has emerged over the last 20 years as an interdisciplinary specialism combining the areas of dental and facial surgery and neuro-surgery. This development has been shaped by the recognition that, because of the close structural affinity between the facial skull and the cerebral skull, in many surgical operations specialists from different areas of expertise need to work closely together if ideal results are to be obtained. Complicated operations in connection with tumours and vascular diseases of the basilar region and the eye socket or with injuries to the mid-face and the frontobase as well as many facial malformations benefit particularly from this kind of interdisciplinary collaboration.
