The tumour centre is the oncological competence centre (tumour illnesses) at the Hirslanden Klinik Aarau. The specialists and experts at the Tumour Centre provide both out-patients and in-patients with top-quality specialist care for malignant tumours. Our well-integrated team of doctors, specially trained oncological nursing staff, MTRAs, psycho-oncologists, physiotherapists, dieticians and pastors provide both you and your family with competent and integral care.
The Tumour Centre combines the fields of Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy in a way which is unique in Switzerland. The intensive cooperation with diagnostic doctors and tumour surgeons, both on a daily basis and in the regular tumour boards, and the coordination of therapy with family doctors ensure that patients receive the best possible interdisciplinary care for all tumour-related diseases.
The Tumour Centre is directed by Dr. Christian von Briel, an FMH-certified specialist in radio-oncology and Dr. Razvan Popescu, an FMH-certified specialist in oncology-haematology, who together run the common out-patient department in the Medical Centre. This cooperation ensures additional comfort and smooth multidisciplinary care for out-patients. Oncology patients are often treated using both forms of therapy one after another or with a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
This cooperation is already clear to patients during admission: the reception, waiting area and laboratories are operated on a common basis. The very patient-friendly rooms are light and cosy. Electronic patient files provide a common oncological patient history for both medical oncology and radio-oncology – a novelty in Switzerland which creates synergies and ensures minimum administrative expenditure and maximum care for the patients.
