A specialised unit within the paediatric centre is in charge of treating chronic pain in children. A variety of therapies are offered, including hypnosis.

Multidisciplinary care

A multidisciplinary unit specialised in treating chronic or persisting pain in children (for 3 to 6 months). Because chronic pain lasts for a long time, it can considerably affect the behaviour of the child. It can appear at any age, from infancy to old age, and affects both women and men equally. A multidisciplinary approach to care (drugs, psychology, psychotherapy) has the advantage of bringing together several specialists and letting them work in a concerted manner to re-educate the patient, as it were. Managing chronic pain is an integrative field of medicine, which can include acupuncture, hypnosis, art therapy and other complementary fields of medicine. Most patients have been referred by their physician for recommendations by a specialist.

The Clinique also offers hypnosis, which is geared towards children with sharp pains, chronic pain, psychosomatic troubles or general childhood problems. Hypnosis is a state of modified consciousness and serves as a therapeutic process. It's a special way of communicating with oneself and others. It also permits the therapist to awaken the patient's perception of sensation and his or her imaginary world.
