Since 27 April 2020, hospitals will be able to resume all medical procedures, including non-urgent procedures.
I’m not sure whether my condition is “urgent”. Who can I contact?
Your primary contact person is your family doctor. If your family doctor doesn’t have any capacity or you don’t have a family doctor, you can call the Hirslanden Healthline (0848 333 999) at any time. Our staff will listen to your problem and refer you to an appropriate family doctor or medical specialist.
I have pain, but wish to avoid going to hospital at the present time.
If you have pain it is absolutely vital that you consult a doctor and don’t avoid a consultation because of the current crisis. Particularly people who are chronically ill run the risk that their condition can worsen due to a lack of medical care, or that complications can arise if a procedure is done too late. We are committed to assisting all patients, regardless of whether they have COVID-19.
How high is the risk of contracting COVID-19 at the emergency department or in hospital?
You don’t have to worry about becoming infected with the coronavirus in hospital. You also don’t have to worry about being a burden on the emergency department. In our hospitals, we strictly separate COVID-19 patients and non-COVID-19 patients. It is important for patients with severe symptoms to go to the doctor or an emergency department.
How do you make sure that patients don’t contract the coronavirus?
The rooms and corridors used by COVID-19 patients and non-COVID-19 patients in our hospitals are strictly separated. The experiences of many Swiss hospitals over the past few weeks confirm that the risk of contracting the coronavirus is not higher in hospital, as all hospitals – and thus also our hospitals – are strictly adhering to the required protective and hygiene measures with the help of qualified staff.
I have an appointment for a doctor’s consultation, an examination or a planned operation at a Hirslanden hospital. Will this appointment take place?
If your appointment has not been cancelled, then it will take place. We will contact you immediately if any changes are made due to the current situation.
I have supplementary hospitalisation insurance. Can I make use of the supplementary benefits during the crisis, too?
Yes. During a stay in a Hirslanden hospital, all supplementary benefits covered by your insurance policy are guaranteed. You are free to choose your doctor and appointment times, and you can access all the supplementary benefits such as free choice of technology and all services during your stay in hospital.
I’m pregnant and I’m worried that the virus poses a threat to me and my baby.
Findings from China and Italy show that newborn babies seldom fall ill with COVID-19. According to current knowledge, the virus does not increase the risk of complications during childbirth.
I’m pregnant and tested positive for COVID-19. Will I now infect my child?
According to current knowledge, babies do not become infected during pregnancy. For more details, please contact your obstetrician or midwife.
Is my partner/husband allowed to attend the birth of our child?
Please consult the website of the hospital where you are registered to give birth. Not all hospitals apply the same rules.
