The project «Pool tests for all» will enable people throughout Switzerland to participate in pooled PCR saliva testing. This involves submitting a sample by means of a PCR saliva test at one of the participating testing sites (pharmacies, medical practices, home healthcare services, laboratories test centres etc.). This sample is then mixed together with others to create a pooled sample, which is then analysed in a laboratory: www.pooltests.ch.

If you are interested in providing pooled testing services as a «Pool tests for all» testing site, you can find further information here

Three good reasons for testing sites

Free of charge

The test costs (incl. certificate) are covered by the federal government.

Certificates

In the case of a negative pooled result, a Covid certificate can be issued at no extra cost (as far as the relevant canton supports the issuing of certificates).

Reliability

PCR saliva tests are analysed in a laboratory. They are better than rapid antigen tests in terms of sensitivity, especially in asymptomatic persons.

Certificates

The test result is usually available on weekdays within 24 hours of receipt of the pool sample in the laboratory and is communicated to the tested person by e-mail. In case of a negative result, a COVID certificate is issued directly (will be sent by e-mail).

If a pool result is positive, the persons tested can undergo individual retesting (PCR or rapid antigen test). The costs are covered by the Confederation. The testing centre issues a COVID certificate in the event of a negative retest.

The procedure for testing

You can find a detailed description of the individual points further down under the heading «Procedure: Pool tests for all».

Selection of the testing site
2
Entry of personal data and specification whether a certificate is required
3
Checking of identity and any relevant medical certificates at the testing site

5
Mixing of samples carried out by the testing site («pooling»)
6
Analysis in a laboratory
7
Forwarding of result and certificate
8
Retesting in the case of a positive result

Symptoms?
If you have symptoms, you should definitely not take part in the pooled tests.
Please carry out an individual PCR test or a rapid antigen test at a test centre, with your doctor, in a hospital or at a pharmacy. The Confederation covers the costs.

Finding a testing site

You can find out which testing sites are located in your local area on the «Pool tests for all» platform. Participation is possible from the age of 3 years.

Symptoms?
If you have symptoms, you should definitely not take part in the pooled tests.

Personal data

You will be asked to enter your personal information: first name, last name, date of birth, email address, insurance card number.

Verification on site
Septorhinoplastik Icon Check-In

You go to the testing centre within five days of registration and identify yourself by means of passport/ID. The testing site will see in their system that you are registered for a test with them. If you cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons and the costs of the test are covered by your health insurance provider, you will also need to show your medical certificate.

Submitting a sample

You will be given a test kit and will submit your saliva sample on site (60 seconds of rinsing your mouth with a saline solution and transferring the liquid into the sample tube provided). You are then free to leave the testing site.

Pooling

The testing site will mix your saliva sample with those of other tested persons («pooling») and will record on the platform which individuals belong to which pool.

Analysis

The created «pooled sample» is then forwarded to a laboratory for analysis.

Result and certificate

The test result is usually available on weekdays within 24 hours of receipt of the pool sample in the laboratory and is communicated by e-mail and SMS.

  • If the result is negative, you will receive a Covid certificate by email, which is valid for 72 hours from the time the sample is taken.
  • If a pool result is positive or invalid (which happens in rare cases), the tested persons can perform an individual retest (PCR or rapid antigen test). Ideally, this retesting should take place at the same testing site. However, all providers throughout Switzerland who offer this service (pharmacies, medical practices, test centres, laboratories, etc.) can also be used.

Retesting is free of charge and a COVID certificate is issued by the testing site in case of a negative result.
To prove that the person has been in a positive or invalid pool, he/she must show the receipt of his/her registration for the pool test (A4 document, sent by e-mail with the registration), as well as passport/ID for identity control and the health insurance card for billing.
