Week 10All the vital organs are present
The embryo is becoming more and more like a baby. However, the head is still disproportionately large, so that there is sufficient space for the rapid development of the brain. The formation of all the vital organs is now complete. They will slowly start functioning and continue to mature until the baby is born.
The eyes are now covered by eyelids, the taste buds and foundations for the baby teeth have formed and various skin glands have developed. Incredibly fine hairs are starting to grow on the embryo’s skin.
Your hormone levels will continue to fluctuate considerably. And this will also affect your mood, causing you to feel highs and lows. Dealing with these mood swings is not always easy – for you and the people around you. But in a few weeks your hormone levels will stabilise (at the start of the 2nd trimester of your pregnancy). Your mood swings will become less pronounced and you will feel more even-tempered.
