Benefits & Risks

If classic InterStim therapy neuromodulation involves a single sacral root, the LION procedure allows us to jointly stimulate all sacral roots using a single quadripolar electrode. Moreover, this electrode is implanted vertically (at right angles to the sacral root) rather than longitudinally (parallel to the root), as is the case in InterStim therapy. This difference explains the superior therapeutic results obtained with the LION procedure in all the cases described above. Better treatment is also achieved in cases of associated neuropathic pain (pudendal neuralgia, ischialgia) or other pain syndromes of the pelvic floor that are frequently observed in patients suffering from MS or diabetic neuropathy.
