Heart attack or circulation-related emergency: Take the first signs seriously!

Possible signs of a heart attack should be taken very seriously. The alarm symptoms include:

Heart attack symptoms

  • Pain, pressure, feeling of tightness behind the sternum, radiating across the rib cage, into the shoulders, arms, neck, throat, upper abdominal area, back and under the chin 
  • Duration of the symptoms: longer than 15 minutes 
  • Frequent accompanying symptoms: discomfort, nausea, difficulty breathing, dizziness
    often: pale and tired complexion, weak or irregular pulse

Circulatory symptoms with rhythm disorders

  • Fainting spell
  • Paleness
  • Racing heart
  • Slow or fast pulse, weak or even no pulse
Stroke symptoms
  • Sudden paralyses, distorted speech, distorted vision, fall, fainting spell

Circulatory arrest

  • Unconsciousness
  • Shortage of breath
  • No pulse

What should you do?

  • Immediately call an emergency doctor, outpatient clinic or the nearest heart centre
  • Provide details of your location and address
  • Perform a cardiac massage immediately in the event of a circulatory arrest
  • Undo any tight clothing and lay the person in a comfortable position
  • Turn a light on in the house, entrance way and staircase
