Daniela de la Cruz (43, married with one child) has worked for the Department of Finance and Health Care in the Canton of Glarus since 2006 and as Head of Health Care since 2012. She was Project Manager for the autonomisation of the Cantonal Hospital in Glarus, hospital and rehabilitation planning in Glarus and also the design of the health care mission statement for the Canton of Glarus.
From 2002 to 2006, Daniela de la Cruz led the therapy services at the University Hospital Basel (USB). She was a member of the division management team for medical inter-departmental functions, which deliver clinic-wide medical and therapeutic services for all clinics at the USB, such as radiology, anaesthesiology and physiotherapy. She was also head of the specialist department for medical and therapeutic professions at the USB.
Daniela de la Cruz graduated in basic commercial training and is a university-qualified physiotherapist. She has also received management and business administration training and studied for a Master of Advanced Studies FHO in Health Service Management.
Her predecessor, Christian Schuhmacher (41), has managed Klinik Birshof since 2011. He contributed significantly towards shaping the development of the site through a number of expansion projects. Last year, Hirslanden Klinik Birshof in Münchenstein was able to treat 40 per cent more patients compared with the previous year.
Christian Schuhmacher will become Hospital Manager of the City Hospital in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). In doing so, he will take over the management of one of the largest hospitals in the Arabian metropolis. The City Hospital belongs to Mediclinic Middle East. Mediclinic Middle East is — like the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group — part of the South African hospital group Mediclinic International, which is the sixth largest hospital group in the world.
