Press release, 8 January 2015
Christian Schuhmacher (41, married, two children) has been instrumental in successfully upgrading the Hirslanden Klinik Birshof in Münchenstein since 2011 with a range of expansion projects. The establishment has developed particularly strongly – it was, for instance, able to treat 40 per cent more patients last year than in 2013. Christian Schuhmacher previously headed the Directorate of the University Hospital of Basel. He studied Law in Basel and holds an MBA from the Universities of Toronto and St. Gallen (HSG).
The Mediclinic City Hospital has 229 beds, offers multi-disciplinary medical facilities and ranks amongst Dubai’s leading healthcare establishments. Major expansion projects have already been set in motion, such as the establishment of one of the UAEֹ’s first oncology centres. Planned in partnership with Hirslanden Zurich, it is further evidence of the collaboration that exists between the subsidiaries of Mediclinic International.
The Executive Committee, though sorry to see Christian Schuhmacher leave the Klinik Birshof, is at the same time delighted that he is joining such an important hospital within the Mediclinic International group, and proud that Hirslanden has been able to provide it with its Director. Dr. Ole Wiesinger, CEO of the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group and a member of the Executive Committee of Mediclinic International, comments: “The advantage of a healthcare group with an international scope is that it can offer its managers and specialists opportunities for personal development. We are delighted that Christian Schuhmacher has been chosen for such an important role at a partner facility in Dubai.”
The search for a new Director is already underway. Christian Schuhmacher is due to relocate to Dubai during the first half of 2015.
The Hirslanden Private Hospital Group consists of 16 hospitals in 11 cantons. The Group has a good 2,100 employed and affiliated doctors, and 7,800 staff members.
