Press release, 25 June 2014
For many years, Hirslanden has operated the Cecil and Bois-Cerf hospitals in Lausanne, and is now further expanding its presence in the west of Switzerland. “Hirslanden is the ideal partner for the Clinique La Colline. The affiliated doctor system is a central element of both companies’ business models, and it allows the doctors entrepreneurial freedom”, says Paul Hökfelt, Director and Board President at Clinique La Colline. Therefore Hirslanden was chosen. Hökfelt explained further that the integration into the private hospital group was taking place “in a pleasant and open culture of discussion”. Hökfelt will remain Director and Board Member after the Hirslanden takeover.
“With the excellently positioned Clinique La Colline, Hirslanden Private Hospital Group wishes to expand its presence in Western Switzerland”, says Dr Ole Wiesinger, CEO at Hirslanden Private Hospital Group. “We will work towards the hospital’s successful and long-term development. The current strategic projects will be proceeded under Hirslanden’s guidance. In the last decades, Hirslanden has proven that the integration of hospitals acquired is carried out smoothly, while always maintaining regional and cultural characteristics“.
The Hirslanden Private Hospital Group now consists of 15 hospitals in 11 cantons, two of which are located in Lausanne (Bois-Cerf and Cecil). The Group has a good 2,100 employed and affiliated doctors, and 7,800 staff members. Hirslanden is the leading private hospital group and the largest medical network in Switzerland. In the 2013/14 financial year, it generated a turnover of 1,437bn Swiss francs. On 31 March 2014, over 87,200 patients were being treated as inpatients at the 14 hospitals with a total of 420,000 inpatient days. In insurance terms, the patient mix consists of 41.4% basic, 33.0% semi-private, and 25.6% private insured patients. Hirslanden operates a total of 12 emergency units and emergency admission, and thus contributes to the basic medical cover for the Swiss population.
The newly renovated Clinique La Colline is located a few minutes from Geneva’s city centre, and offers a multi-disciplinary medical and surgical range of treatment with 20 sub-specialities. The hospital’s modern facilities will provide post-expansion (as of end of this year) 100 rooms and suites, an emergency unit, six operating theatres, and a dedicated polyclinic. Around 240 members of staff and 360 affiliated doctors tend to the hospital’s patients.
