The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a scale which evaluates body weight. It is calculated by dividing the weight (in kilogrammes) by the body height (in metres) squared.
Example: 90 kilogrammes divided by (1.65 cm x 1.65 cm ) = Body Mass Index 33
The formula is only a standard value because neither build, sex, muscle or fat percentage, nor the bone structure are taken into consideration in the calculation. The evaluation is done according to WHO norms and applies here only for adults from 18 years of age.
