Our anaesthetics specialists will meet you in the surgery ward to supervise your heart and blood pressure check-up. They will also be taking care of you, along with the anaesthetist throughout the surgery.
In case you don't require a full anaesthetic you will be supplied with earphones to hear music throughout the surgery. Alternatively if you wish so you can watch the surgery on screen.
Following a full or a regional anaesthesia you will first be taken to the intensive care unit to be observed. Your condition will be monitored around the clock by specially trained personnel and state of the art technical equipment. For the first 24 hours following a surgery the anaesthetist is responsible for you, and he and your doctor will decide when you should be moved to your room. Your doctor will inform you as soon as possible about the outcome of the surgery.
Your closest relatives can call in order to check on your condition or visit you.
Blood transfusions cannot always be avoided during an surgery. In order to reduce the use blood from a stranger to a minimum you have the possibility to donate your own blood in the weeks prior to the surgery. Should you wish to do this, please discuss it with your doctor.
