14th week of pregnancy

  • Biparietal diameter of foetus: 25 to 32 mm
  • Weight of foetus: approx. 50 g

Perhaps you can feel your growing stomach, and waistbands becoming tight. For most pregnant women this is the time to buy comfortable trousers with a bit of extra room.

Your little one is still growing quite rapidly and is becoming increasingly like a newborn baby. All organ systems are completely formed and functioning (in the context of the womb).

The lungs are now training - with amniotic fluid rather than air - and there is virtual in- and ex-haling. These breathing movements are important for after the birth and are clearly visible with ultrasound imaging. Until then, the placenta of course provides oxygen.

The sensory organs - for example, a sense of touch, equilibrium and taste - are now quite developed. Stimuli are perceived and passed on to the brain.
