20th week of pregnancy

  • Biparietal diameter of foetus: 46 to 55 mm
  • Weight of foetus: approx. 330 g

Your baby no longer develops as rapidly as before. It puts on a little fat, which will be very important for temperature regulation later on. It drinks approx. 400 ml of amniotic liquid daily and then passes it via its urinary tract. This not only trains the swallowing process but the kidneys too.

The foetus is now completely covered in vernix caseosa in order to protect its sensitive skin from amniotic liquid.
