- 29th to 35th day of embryonic development
- Length of embryo: approx. 4 to 8 mm
The breasts change: they feel heavy, sensitive and even painful, as the gland body prepares for milk production. This development starts shortly after the nidation of the fertilized egg in the mucous membrane of the uterus.
For your child, the 7th week is an important developmental phase. The embryo now grows rapidly and by the 12th week the anlagen of all vital organ systems are completed. Thereafter they merely mature.
The form of its body is now clearly visible. The large inner organs (digestive tract, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys and brain) and the circulation system are already present and continue to develop. Body structures such as muscles and bones also develop. The skin, as a sense organ, is already developed. On the paddle-like hands and feet small indents can be seen which will become fingers and toes. The upper extremities develop faster than the lower ones, which is why babies learn to grasp before they learn to walk.
On the large and forward-bent head of the embryo there are conspicuous protrusions which become eyes. There are tiny holes for the nose, and the mouth continues to develop.
