In the birth preparation course at Klinik Stephanshorn in St. Gallen, we prepare you and your partner for the birth of your baby. The English version of the course takes place over three consecutive Monday evenings. We also offer the course in German; more information about this can be found here.
Course content
Each of the three evenings will focus on different topics. If necessary, we reserve the right to modify the content each evening at short notice. Your accompanying person is welcome on all the evenings.
First evening: pregnancy, latent phase and labour
- Organisational clarifications, what you need before giving birth
- Counselling for pregnancy complaints
- Relaxation exercises as well as how to prepare the pelvis and pelvic floor for birth
- Perineal massage
- What the latent phase is and what it means for you
- What kinds of labour there are, what you can do and when
Second evening: birth and the first postpartum period
- What happens during the birth, how the child behaves
- Dealing with pain, options for relieving pain
- Role of the accompanying person
- Massage techniques, breathing exercises
- The first few hours after the birth
- The initial postpartum period in hospital
- Visit to the delivery room
Third evening: the second postpartum period and breastfeeding
- The postpartum period at home
- What your baby and you need, how to get yourself organised
- Breast preparation during pregnancy
- Feeding your newborn

Cost
CHF 250 (some health insurers contribute to the cost of the course)

Deregistration
Please note that cancellation/postponement will only be accepted in writing and you will be charged 50% of the course fee if you submit this within seven days of the course starting and 100% once the course has started.
This course is also available to you if you do not plan to give birth at Klinik Stephanshorn.
