The Hirslanden Group and the Basel-Land Cantonal Hospital (KSBL) have signed a cooperation agreement for a joint venture in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. This public-private partnership lays the foundation for a medical network that will offer holistic patient care in Northwestern Switzerland.

KSBL and the Hirslanden Group will offer comprehensive inpatient and outpatient healthcare services for musculoskeletal disorders, geriatric traumatology and musculoskeletal rehabilitation in Northwestern Switzerland. The KSBL’s orthopaedic clinic and Hirslanden Klinik Birshof will join forces to establish themselves in future as one of the seven A1 orthopaedic hospitals in Switzerland. The long-standing tradition of promoting teaching and research will be continued as well as strengthened and improved by this partnership.

“An integrated treatment chain from the first consultation to follow-up treatment will be established to ensure that everything can be provided ‘by a single source’,” says Stephan Pahls, Chief Operating Officer East of the Hirslanden Group. “Our new institution will bring together proven experts for the musculoskeletal system who cover all modern diagnostic procedures and treatment methods,” adds Pahls. “This cooperation initiative between two partners who will now jointly offer top-class orthopaedic treatment is not only a win-win for us, but also for all patients in the region,” emphasizes Madeleine Stöckli, Chairman of the Board (a.i.) of KSBL.

Rather than expanding the scope of services, the merger will prevent duplication. This will make it possible to meet the needs of patients even better with the usual high quality and with lean structures and efficient processes. “We see this project as a unique opportunity for combining complementary skills to create an exemplary offer for patients in the region,” explains Madeleine Stöckli.

Daniel Liedtke, CEO of the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group, is excited about the cooperation initiative: “Our objective is to establish a strong network organised on the basis of partnership that can offer a comprehensive range of healthcare services and thus make a contribution to providing healthcare to the people in Northwestern Switzerland.”

The joint venture will be established in the first quarter of 2020. The Hirslanden Group will be responsible for the management. The partners are announcing the cooperation initiative at this early date so as to involve all stakeholder groups and experts in the final design of the joint venture.
