In Switzerland around 600 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year. Although ovarian cancer primarily develops in old age, it can also affect younger women: 15% of patients are diagnosed when they are under the age of 50.

The ovaries are part of the female sexual organs (genitals). These oval-shaped organs are located on the pelvic walls on either side of the uterus. Their size changes considerably during the woman’s menstrual cycle. They are part of the reproductive organs: they contain egg cells and release the eggs through the fallopian tubes.
