Your nursing expert for breast diseases

The breast care nurse is a nurse with specialist training in the field of breast diseases. She provides professional advice and emotional support to women with breast cancer and their relatives. From diagnosis to follow-up care, the breast care nurse is there for you as a constant contact person throughout the entire treatment period. You can discuss any questions and concerns with her in a confidential setting. Moreover, you can contact her at any time directly or through your attending doctor.

Counselling/advisory services offered by the breast care nurse

The counselling/advisory services offered by the breast care nurse help patients and their relatives to cope better with the disease:

  • She is a shoulder to lean on, and provides advice and ongoing support, upon request from the time the diagnosis is made
  • Answering questions about the disease and the planned treatments
  • Information and recommendations on how to deal with side effects of treatments, for example scar care, hair loss, fatigue, loss of appetite
  • Visits during the hospital stay
  • Advice on breast prostheses, bras and fitting an initial provisional prosthesis after the surgery 
  • Support and counselling on issues such as changes in body image, beauty, sexuality, family, communication with children, workplace, and much more
  • Coping strategies for everyday life
  • Support in decision-making processes
  • Mediation of contacts, for example social services, Cancer League, self-help groups, pastoral care or psycho-oncology
  • Delivery of information material
  • Constant contact person throughout the entire treatment period

After an inpatient stay, outpatient visits to the breast care nurse are possible. The breast care nurse can be contacted by phone or e-mail.
