Joint Accreditation Committee ISCT-EBMT (JACIE)

Since 28 June 2017, the Klinik Hirslanden Zürich has been accredited by the "Joint Accreditation Committee ISCT-EBMT" (JACIE) in accordance with its Europe-wide standards. This means that the autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation programme at the Klinik Hirslanden is among a select group of centres in Switzerland and across Europe that meet JACIE’s comprehensive and stringent criteria.

During the preparatory work, which spanned several years, the workflows were structured and optimised, and all aspects of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation were reviewed in terms of quality and safety in order to meet these high, internationally established quality standards. These extensive measures culminated in an assessment by the JACIE Commission, which carried out an on-site audit in March 2017 to verify that all the required criteria had been met. Prof. Dr. Christoph Renner, Programme Director for Blood Stem Cell Transplantation, sees the accreditation not only as recognition of the work carried out by the entire team but, above all, as confirmation that patients are receiving excellent care: “This accreditation underlines the high quality of autologous blood stem cell transplants at the Klinik Hirslanden in Zurich.”

The accreditation body JACIE was founded by the European Organisation for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) and the International Society for Cell Therapy (ISCT), the two leading international scientific organisations in the field of stem cell transplantation. The standards defined by JACIE set out precise criteria for all areas involved in the process. In the clinical setting, for example, these include a minimum number of transplants, specific facilities and staffing requirements, the qualifications of medical and nursing staff, and compliance with and implementation of various standardised procedures known as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
