Our infectious disease specialists are specialized in the assessment, consultation, and treatment of all types of infectious diseases, including travel medicine clinics. Both inpatient and outpatient patients benefit from a comprehensive range of services. We ensure close collaboration with specialists from other disciplines.

General Infectious Diseases

General infectious diseases focuses on the prevention, consultation, assessment, and treatment of infectious illnesses. Our main areas of expertise include the consultation and treatment of:

  • Infectious diseases affecting all organ systems

  • Complex bone infections and infections involving foreign materials, in interdisciplinary collaboration with specialists in orthopedics or neurosurgery

  • Unexplained fever or other conditions that may be caused by an infection

  • Infectious hepatitis (liver infections)

  • HIV infections

  • Sexually transmitted diseases (screening and treatment)

  • Tuberculosis

Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT)

We provide intravenous (IV) antibiotic therapies on an outpatient basis, provided that all patient criteria are met and safe treatment can be ensured. For the safety of our patients, we assess individually whether this form of therapy is suitable for a specific infectious disease or for the individual patient. By carrying out treatment on an outpatient basis, we avoid unnecessary or prolonged hospitalizations. Our services include in particular:

  • Administration of intravenous antibiotic therapy 

     

  • Organization of outpatient medical follow-up appointments and further diagnostic assessments

  • Therapy on behalf of general practitioners and medical institutions 
  • Coordination with general practitioners and other referring institutions

HIV-Consultation hours

Die kontinuierliche Betreuung HIV-positiver Personen ist uns ein Anliegen und einer der Schwerpunkte unserer ambulanten Tätigkeit. In unseren Sprechstunden bieten wir:

  • Abklärung und Standortbestimmung
  • Beratung, Abklärung und Therapie der HIV-Infektion und von Begleiterkrankungen
  • HIV-Präexpositionsprophlyaxe (PrEP)
  • Beratung und vorbeugende Behandlung (Postexpositionsprophylaxe, "PEP") nach Exposition (sexuell, Nadelstichverletzung) mit HIV und anderen sexuell oder über Blutkontakt übertragbaren Viren

Hepatitis-Sprechstunde

During the management of infectious hepatitis (liver infections), an interdisciplinary team of infectious disease specialists and gastroenterologists works closely together. The focus is on the assessment, treatment, and care of:

  • Hepatitis B and/or C

  • Rare forms of hepatitis (A, D, and E)

  • Co-infections with HIV

Long-Covid-Consultation Hour

The first point of contact for people affected by Long COVID is their general practitioner. After an initial assessment, they can arrange the necessary referrals to specialists based on the main symptoms. Travel and Tropical Medicine

In our clinic, we advise individuals before travel and examine and care for patients who become ill after returning from travel. We work closely with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel. Our services include:

  • Vaccination counseling and administration of all vaccinations, including yellow fever vaccination

  • Advice on malaria prophylaxis and emergency malaria treatment

  • Counseling on specific medical risks in certain travel destinations

  • Medical assessments after travel or stays in tropical regions

  • Treatment of tropical diseases

Important: We do not administer vaccinations without a medical consultation. The consultation is billed according to the time and effort involved.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

As enjoyable as sex can be, it can also lead to inconveniences such as infections. In such cases, it is important to get tested and treated early. We specialize in sexually transmitted infections and offer our expertise in assessment, treatment, therapy, and prevention in the following areas:

  • HIV infection

  • Syphilis

  • Gonorrhea

  • Chlamydia

  • Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C

Appointments for a travel medicine consultation can be made without a medical referral by phone (+41 41 208 32 54) or via email at infektiologie.stanna@hirslanden.ch. For all other consultations, a referral from a physician is required.
