As a branch of gynaecology, oncological gynaecology deals with the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of benign and malignant tumours in women. Malignant gynaecological cancers include breast cancer (mammary carcinoma), ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, vaginal cancer and cancer of the labia (vulvar cancer). Benign gynaecological conditions include myoma, ovarian cysts, and benign tumours of the uterus or labia.

Oncological gynaecology has access to a wide range of modern diagnostic and therapeutic measures. The therapeutic range of services within gynaecological oncology thus includes, among other things, the following:

  • Surgical treatment of tumours of the ovary, breast or uterus
  • Chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy or radiotherapy of malignant gynaecological cancers
  • Laser therapy for the treatment of malignant masses on the labia or in the vagina
  • Treatment of myoma or ovarian cysts

Complete or partial removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) is one of the most common procedures within oncological gynaecology. In addition, surgical interventions can be performed by open surgery and by endoscopic minimally invasive procedures.
