Cancer is a complex disease. Modern medicine tackles this complexity by uniting the knowledge and skills of various medical specialties. At certified cancer centres, this interdisciplinary exchange takes place systematically and according to established guidelines.

The Tumour Centre Hirslanden Zurich was certified as a European Cancer Centre in November 2018 and was successfully recertified in 2020. The certification is conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the German Cancer Society (DKG) and is internationally recognised and highly regarded. By becoming DKG certified, Klinik Hirslanden has set itself far higher standards than those required by law. The certification of the Hirslanden Tumour Centre Zurich as a European Cancer Centre is a milestone in the history of Klinik Hirslanden. It proves that the hospital is making an important contribution to the high quality of oncological care in the canton of Zurich and justifies Klinik Hirslanden’s inclusion in the cantonal hospital list.

The Tumour Centre offers cancer patients a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art medical services in the field of oncology, from prevention and diagnostics to therapy and aftercare. Patients benefit from the convenience of having one main contact person, even though their individual case is assessed by all the relevant medical specialists. This results in a therapy plan that optimally coordinates the services of different specialist areas.

This approach makes it possible to cure some patients or at least significantly prolong their lives and provide relief from tumour-related symptoms.

In the specialist areas, there is also a requirement that patients be operated on by doctors who perform a minimum number of surgeries per year. Compliance with this requirement is essential for certification. Together with the highly regarded surgeons at our organ-specific cancer centres, doctors who do not reach the required minimum number of surgeries can continue to operate on their patients.

The Tumour Centre always focuses on the needs of the patients. The Tumour Centre Hirslanden Zurich currently includes the following organ-specific cancer centres:
