At the end of the treatments, a precise program of consultations and follow-up examinations is proposed to each patient. This follow-up is usually carried out by an oncologist and a gynecologist who will have followed the entire management. The patient's attending physician is kept informed of each step.
The frequency of follow-up consultations is gradually changing and decreasing: As a rule, an appointment is scheduled every 3 months for 2 years, then every 6 months for 3 years and finally once a year. This program is adapted to the treatments followed.
In addition, a mammogram and ultrasound are scheduled each year at the end of the treatments and supplemented in some cases by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Two referring nurses are available to patients throughout the medical follow-up. Support from a psychologist and a specialized physiotherapist can also be offered according to needs.
Reconstructive surgery
Depending on the needs of surgical treatment and the choice of each patient, reconstructive surgery may be proposed. The period following treatment can be a good time for this essential step for the silhouette and body image of patients. In this case, a consultation with the plastic surgeon is arranged in order to define the type of surgical approach. The duration of the procedure and that of hospitalization depend on the choice of reconstruction. The referring nurses naturally remain at the side of each patient in order to accompany them in this last step.
