A diagnosis of benign or malignant breast cancer can initially come as a shock, but breast cancer is usually highly treatable. Treatment options range from conservative (breast cancer radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, etc.) to surgical treatment (surgical removal) of the breast cancer. Our specialists advise you on your choice of treatment and during your breast cancer treatment.

Malignant breast cancer – what now?

If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, you will be closely looked after by the experienced team at the Breast Centre. We will provide you with comprehensive information about every step of the treatment. The treatment concepts will be discussed by a panel of specialists at the tumour conference. Your attending doctor will discuss the results with you in detail and plan the next steps together. The breast care nurse will support you throughout the treatment.

In the majority of cases, breast cancer is highly treatable and breast-conserving therapy is possible. Our breast surgeons are specialists in this area. Oncoplasty (a special surgical technique) often makes it possible to safely remove the tumour without having to remove the entire breast, allowing the natural shape of the breast to be thus largely preserved. In rare cases, breast-conserving therapy is not possible. Then there is the option of  breast reconstruction surgery with your own tissue or with implants.
