• Bisphosphonates

    Chemically produced substances (alendronate, ibandronate, risedronate and zoledronate) that effectively prevent bone loss by inhibiting the functioning and number of bone cells that break down bone tissue. They have a delayed effect; after the medication has been discontinued it continues to have an effect for months or even years.
  • Blood clots

    Coagulated, clumps of blood in a blood vessel. Can lead to a thrombus or an embolism.
  • Blood thinner

    Medication that thins the blood to prevent the development of blood clots and thromboses.
  • Blood viscosity

    The thickness of blood and its ability to flow through vessels. The more viscous it is, the thicker it is and the less capable of flowing.
  • BMI

    Body mass index. This value is derived from a person’s the body weight (kg) divided by square of their height (m).
  • Bone marrow

    The tissue inside bones where blood is formed.
  • Botulinum toxin

    Originally a nerve poison, used in small doses to treat overactive muscle functioning in the bladder or sphincter, a highly effective medication.
  • Bowlegs

    Leg deformity that causes the knee joints to bend outwards.
  • BPH

    Benign enlargement of the prostate gland.
  • Bradycardia

    A heartbeat that is too slow. In adults, below 60 beats per minute.
  • Bronchial asthma

    Chronic inflammatory disease affecting the bronchial tubes that causes sudden breathing difficulties.
