Childbirth is one of the most formative experiences for women and their partners. As overwhelming as the delivery is, it can also be very intense and challenging. That is why we support and accompany parents-to-be from the first contractions or during a Caesarean section until the transition to the postnatal unit. At our hospital, you can expect support that is tailored to your needs, a modern infrastructure and an informal atmosphere.

Are you having contractions? Is the birth imminent? Give us a call!

If your contractions are coming at regular intervals, your water has broken or you feel uncertain or uncomfortable, call our maternity unit on +41 41 784 03 40. We are here to help 24/7. A midwife will explain the next steps to you and assess whether you need to come to the hospital.

Our experienced midwives will manage the birth in close cooperation with your doctor

Your midwife will check on the progress of the birth, provide you active assistance, answer your questions and provide support if you have any questions or worries. She will manage the birth in close cooperation with your gynaecologist.

Continuity and trust are extremely important to us. That is why we have organised our team so you are accompanied through the entire childbirth process by the same midwife whenever possible. That creates a relationship between the midwife and the parents-to-be.

The safety and well-being of the woman giving birth and the babies are our top priority. We therefore offer you various methods of pain relief.

Natural birth or caesarean section

Vorbereitungszimmer

Safe and secure, whether you are having a natural birth or a caesarean section

Taking the medical conditions into account, the decision regarding the delivery method – natural or Caesarean section –, should be made by the mother-to-be whenever possible. Many factors have an impact on whether you will have a vaginal birth or a Caesarean section. Your attending gynaecologist and our midwives will advise and support you through this process. Regardless of which method is right for you, our expert team will assist you at all times. The most important thing is that you as a mother and parents-to-be feel comfortable.

Alternative or conventional pain relief

We support you by providing alternative pain relief or conventional pain relief

Each woman experiences contractions and labour differently. At AndreasKlinik Cham Zug, we tailor the type of pain relief to your needs. Conventional pain relief like epidural anaesthesia (PDA) can help  mothers-to-be to relax between contractions and refuel with new energy for the active phase of labour. We also offer spinal anaesthesia, which has many benefits and is often recommended by our midwives. It has a similar effect to the PDA, but it is more comfortable to administer and takes effect within five minutes. A tube does not have to be inserted into the back and the method causes few side effects.

Our specially trained midwives offer alternative pain relief methods. This means that women have many options during childbirth, depending on how they experience pain. Our midwives support you with relaxing back massages, aroma therapy, homoeopathy, acupuncture or by running a relaxing bath for you.

Our midwives and anaesthetists will gladly advise you on the available pain relief methods.

Modern infrastructure

Attractive rooms and resources for your delivery

AndreasKlinik Cham Zug has three modern delivery rooms with a bathtub to relax and birthing stools. We also offer a bathtub for a water birth. The warmth of the water can help to relax during birth, because it makes movement easier. In addition, with a water birth, fewer painkillers need to be used and episiotomies have to be performed less frequently. We provide you also with a variety of resources like gymnastic balls, towels or mats. As long as you and your child are doing well, you can try out different positions, get as comfortable as possible and move as needed. Our rooms provide a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Please rest assured that your support person may be present during a natural birth or a caesarean section.

Bonding after birth

Take time to bond as a family

At AndreasKlinik Cham Zug, we give you sufficient space to enjoy the first moments with your child. The first hours after the delivery are very important for the parents and their newborn. The unique relationship between the baby and their parents is forged during this delicate phase. To facilitate bonding, we place the nude infant on your chest immediately after the delivery, which promotes the mutual relationship and intimacy. Your baby recognises the sound of your heartbeat and your voice, and feels safe.

Cooperation with the Lucerne children’s hospital

Safety for your baby thanks to cooperation with the Lucerne children’s hospital

If there are unexpected complications which cause your baby some initial difficulties, we will immediately contact the Lucerne children’s hospital. We have had a great relationship for years. AndreasKlinik Cham Zug can rely on their expertise at any time in case of an emergency. However, your baby will remain at our hospital whenever possible. A paediatrician is on call at all times at our hospital.

Outpatient birth

Back home on the delivery day

At AndreasKlinik Cham Zug, we offer outpatient deliveries. Upon request, and if your health and that of your child allow it, you can return home on the day of your delivery. Women who need to be induced always remain at hospital. They do not have to go home, which is less stressful for them, the baby and their support person.
