We carry out all diagnostic and therapeutic treatments in nephrology - both on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Our aim is to provide all nephrology patients with personalised care and competent treatment. To this end, we offer a comprehensive range of nephrology services including highly specialised medicine from a single source.
Our range of services is aimed at patients of all insurance classes. We offer outpatient and inpatient renal replacement therapies and hold special consultations for refractory hypertension and congenital kidney diseases. In these interdisciplinary consultations, the specialists see the patient together.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)
We specifically cater to the needs of patients affected by cystic kidneys («ADPKD»).
We make the diagnosis, advise you and your relatives and treat the disease and its complications. We also offer participation in national and international studies. Our quality of care is internationally recognised, and our long-term study of the Suisse ADPKD Cohort has become a model for other nephrologists in Europe. We work closely with the patient organisation SwissPKD, which represents your interests vis-à-vis the health authorities and the pharmaceutical industry.
X-linked hypophosphataemia (XLH, phosphate diabetes)
We treat children and adults with X-linked hypophosphataemia (XLH, phosphate diabetes). This also includes treatment with the monoclonal antibody drug Burosumab (Crysvita). Prof Andreas Serra, MD, has conducted preclinical and clinical research in the field of phosphate regulation.
Tuberous sclerosis, tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC)
Tuberous sclerosis (TSC) is a rare genetic disease that affects multiple organs. The treatment of patients with this disease is usually very complex and requires careful multidisciplinary medical care - both in children and adults. Prof Andreas Serra MPH is Co-President of the Swiss TSC Network together with Dr Patricia Dill. The TSC Centre at the Klinik Hirslanden is certified by the German Tuberous Sclerosis Association.
Ultrasound
We specialise in contrast-enhanced ultrasound procedures, for example to clarify unclear lesions (changes) in the kidneys or liver. As an ultrasound learning centre certified by the European Society for Ultrasound, we also offer GPs the opportunity to work shadowing.
PD Dr Jan Tuma and Prof. Dr Andreas Serra are both ultrasound experts, course leaders of the Swiss Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (SGUM) and long-standing examination experts for the final ultrasound evaluation in the abdominal module. We also organise on-site SGUM training courses in abdominal ultrasound and POCUS (point-of-care ultrasound) every year.
Ultrasound examinations
We specialise in contrast-enhanced ultrasound procedures (CEUS), for example to clarify unclear lesions in the kidneys or liver. Bookings for ultrasound examinations are accepted by e-mail or fax.
Certified ultrasound learning centre
As an ultrasound learning centre certified by the European Society for Ultrasound (EFSUMB), we also offer GPs the opportunity to work shadowing.
The mini sono-cave, which takes place regularly on Thursday afternoons and gives participating GPs the opportunity to learn new or improve existing ultrasound techniques on test subjects - be it in the area of the abdomen, musculoskeletal system (MSK) or POCUS.
Publications
We regularly publish articles in specialist journals on the subject of ultrasound:
Complex and rare diseases; autoimmune and systemic diseases
We specialise in rare and complex diseases, the treatment of which usually requires pronounced interdisciplinary cooperation. We offer a joint consultation on site with Prof Günther Hofbauer, MD (specialist in allergology and clinical immunology and specialist in dermatology and venereology), Prof Stefan Russmann, MD (specialist in clinical pharmacology and toxicology), PD Jan Tuma, MD (ultrasound) and, if required, with representatives of other disciplines. During this interdisciplinary consultation, the specialists visit the patient together to draw up a plan for diagnosis and treatment.
Kidney biopsy
Prof Andreas Serra, MD, was head and trainer for kidney biopsies and ultrasound at the University Hospital Zurich for many years. Kidney biopsies can be performed at very short notice and without complications - in the vast majority of cases on an outpatient basis. It is of course also possible to book an appointment for a kidney biopsy only.
Transplantation
Kidney transplantation is the medically best kidney replacement therapy for suitable patients. We therefore take care of preparing patients for a kidney transplant at an early stage and work together with the transplant centres in Basel, Bern and Zurich.
