The birth – the big moment

The calm atmosphere in our family-oriented maternity ward will help you feel at ease. Thanks to the personalised antenatal care, you have already got to know some of the midwives on the team and know that your midwife will cater specifically to your needs. You can put your trust in your midwife with peace of mind and concentrate fully on the birth.

The Announcement of the birth

If your contractions are regular, if your waters have already broken, or if you are unsure, please call our maternity ward (T +41 44 209 22 42). The midwife will advise you individually over the phone as to whether and when it is time to come to the hospital.

Admission

Before you set off, please ring the maternity ward to let them know you are on your way. When you arrive at the hospital, please report to reception. The midwife will meet you in the maternity ward and inform your attending doctor. Your doctor will work closely with the midwife. She will support you throughout the birth process and provide you with personalised care in all areas. For your safety, specialist doctors are available to you and your baby at all times. Your partner is, of course, very welcome to be present during the birth.

More relaxation, less pain

Whether it’s a soothing compress, a relaxing massage, calming aromatherapy, homeopathy, a relaxing bath or targeted acupuncture – we offer a range of naturopathic treatments to help relieve pain and promote relaxation during labour. Conventional painkillers are, of course, also available if required.

Bonding – The vital foundation during those first moments together

The first few hours are very important: the newborn recognises its mother’s heartbeat, scent and voice. Through skin-to-skin contact, it receives the warmth and sense of security it so desperately needs. Conversely, you too are particularly receptive to your baby after the birth. It is during this sensitive phase that the unique bond between the mother – or parents – and the child is formed. It is very important to us that we enable you to experience this so-called ‘bonding’ – the formation of that bond in the first few hours after birth – with as little disruption as possible. With us, your baby stays with you at all times after the birth. Even following a caesarean section, the newborn is not separated from its parents.

The period shortly after birth

The first few hours after the birth are just for you, your baby and your partner. You will experience the new feeling of being a family for the first time. Only your midwife will continue to look after you in the delivery room and will also support you with breastfeeding your baby. After the observation period, you will be moved to your room in the maternity ward, where a nurse will provide you with holistic care.

Doctor's visits

Your gynaecologist will visit you every day, will be on hand to answer any questions you may have, and will discuss your ongoing care with the nursing staff.

Paediatrician

The paediatrician will examine your baby within the first 24 hours after birth and before you are discharged from hospital. To ensure your baby’s safety, a paediatrician is on duty around the clock.
