Society of Skull Base Surgery – Cranio-facial Centre
Society of Skull Base Surgery – Cranio-facial Centre
With the certificate, the German Society of Skull Base Surgery (DGSB) aims to improve the structure and process quality of the treatment of patients with diseases of the skull base in order to guarantee an optimal quality of treatment. The skull base is the area where the cranium abuts the brain. Surgery on the skull base is extremely high-tech: Vital structures such as blood vessels and nerves are all located in close proximity to one another, which makes them difficult to access. Due to the complicated nature of human anatomy at this point and the effects on the quality of life of the patients, close interdisciplinary collaboration between oral and maxillo-facial surgeons, neurosurgeons and ENT doctors is key. Only healthcare institutions which bring together the various skills under one roof and have defined treatment paths are certified by the DGSB as a skull base centre.
