The CardioKids Center provides holistic care designed to support children and their families at every stage — from diagnosis to long-term follow-up — in coordination with regional and university experts :

Fetal and postnatal diagnosis and management of congenital and acquired heart disease.

 

Scope of care :

 

  • Regular follow-up of children with heart disease, including those who have undergone cardiac surgery or catheter-based interventions (in collaboration with HUG and CHUV reference centers)
  • Monitoring of pediatric cardiac rhythm disorders
  • Transition consultations toward adult congenital cardiology (HUG, CHUV)
  • Awareness and prevention initiatives for families and the general public

 

Consultations and Diagnosis

To ensure precise and individualized assessment, the Center offers specialized consultations covering all diagnostic needs in fetal and pediatric cardiology:

  • Specialized fetal cardiology consultations and multidisciplinary care (in collaboration with fetal-maternal medicine)

  • Outpatient pediatric cardiology consultations

  • Specialized cardiogenetics consultations (in collaboration with medical genetics)

Examinations Performed

The CardioKids Center offers a wide range of non-invasive examinations and advanced cardiac imaging techniques to provide a comprehensive and reliable assessment of each child’s cardiac function:

  • Fetal echocardiography

  • Pediatric echocardiography

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)

  • 24-hour Holter ECG monitoring and event recorder

  • Exercise testing (ergometry) and cardiopulmonary exercise testing

  • Pediatric cardiac MRI and CT scan (Dr Fassa)

Treatments and Interventions

The Center provides treatments adapted to each clinical situation, ranging from medical management to complex interventions performed in collaboration with university reference centers:

  • Medical treatments

  • Cardiac surgery (correction of congenital heart defects, in collaboration with university centers)

  • Pediatric cardiac catheterization

  • Management of arrhythmias (electrophysiology/ablation and pacemakers)

Follow-up

The CardioKids Center supports children and their families over the long term by providing tools to better understand the condition, manage treatments, and maintain optimal quality of life.

This follow-up includes comprehensive educational support and psychological assistance tailored to each patient’s needs.
