PD Dr. Dietmar Mauer, Hospital Manager of Klinik Hirslanden in Zurich, has decided to pass on the management of the hospital at the end of August 2020. He will take on a strategic function at Hirslanden Group level. He will be succeeded by Marco Gugolz, who currently serves as Regional Director at Swiss Medical Network. Having previously worked at Klinik St. Anna in Lucerne and Klinik Hirslanden in Zurich, Marco Gugolz is very familiar with the Hirslanden Group.

Dietmar Mauer (62) has managed Klinik Hirslanden since 2017. Prior to this, the qualified specialist in anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine served as the hospital’s Medical Director for five years. Prior to working at Hirslanden, Dietmar Mauer was responsible for central project management and corporate development at Saarland University Hospital. Before that, he was the Managing Physician of the German Organ Transplantation Foundation (Central Region).

Working in a challenging environment, Dietmar Mauer played a decisive role in ensuring a successful course for Klinik Hirslanden in the past few years. Particular highlights include the partnership with medical professionals, the strengthening of highly specialised medicine, and the development of medical quality programmes, such as certified tumour centres. He also decisively expedited the further development of the medical system and the performance management process. In addition to his role as Hospital Manager, Dietmar Mauer sat on the Operations Committee of the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group and is well acquainted with the Group’s strategy. From September, he will be responsible for strategic tasks at Hirslanden Group level, such as the development of healthcare networks and cooperation programmes with other service providers.

“I can look back on a fulfilling time at Klinik Hirslanden, first as Medical Director and then as Hospital Manager. High quality and the well-being of the patients, employees and doctors always took centre stage for me. I’m convinced that Marco Gugolz and the management team will successfully continue this course. I now look forward to applying my experience in the development of strategic initiatives in different regions in Switzerland.”

His successor Marco Gugolz (44) has been working for Swiss Medical Network for the past seven years. He currently serves as Regional Director and is a member of the extended Executive Committee. In this function he is responsible for the private hospitals Bethanien, Lindberg and Belair, Rosenklinik and the Oerlikon medical centre. Before joining Swiss Medical Network he worked as Deputy Head of Services at Klinik Hirslanden from 2001 to 2006, and as Head of Operations & Services and a member of the executive management of Hirslanden Klinik St. Anna in Lucerne from 2006 to 2013.

Marco Gugolz has in-depth knowledge of the Swiss healthcare system and is very familiar with the hospital market in Zurich. He has broad-based experience and completed a number of advanced training and education courses. He will take on his new role on 1 September 2020.

The Executive Committee of the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group would like to thank Dietmar Mauer for his excellent contribution as Hospital Manager of Klinik Hirslanden and is pleased that it will continue to have access to his proven expertise at Group level. The Executive Committee extends a warm welcome to Marco Gugolz and wishes him much success in his future career.
